Singing lessons and LAMDA tuition for all ages and levels
Hello! I'm Kate, founder of Sing Wimbledon and vocal coach. I graduated from Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (formerly known as Birmingham School of Acting) with a first class degree and furthered my training at the Royal Academy of Music in London. I have worked in theatre and TV for the last 15 years performing in shows such as The Sound of Music and The Phantom of the Opera in London's West End and television productions Top Boy, Mr Selfridge and Doctors.
I started teaching singing whilst at drama school on the colleges' part-time course. What started as a way of earning a bit of money soon became a great passion of mine and has ran parallel with my acting career. Over the past 20 years, singing pedagogy has developed infinitely with the help of science and research. In terms of technique, what I personally apply and teach now is a far cry from what I knew to offer all those years ago and I am extremely grateful to all those amazing practitioners who have shared their knowledge over the years.
Having said that, one thing hasn't changed in those years: how important it is for me as a teacher that a student finds a great sense of enjoyment and achievement in their singing, building confidence as we go.
Teaching for me is about taking what I've learnt from my training and ongoing career as an actress and sharing it with my students. I love to watch the confidence of my students grow and their voices develop. It's also interesting to see a positive correlation between singing and stress and anxiety release.
Sing Wimbledon has a team of coaches who cover all genres of music and also offers coaching in music theory, LAMDA, piano and public speaking. To find the coach best suited to your requirements, please read on!
Lessons are tailored to your individual needs online or in person. Whether you are looking for regular lessons, ad hoc classes in preparation for a performance or audition or simply as a gift for a budding singer you know, we, at Sing Wimbledon
are happy to help.
We firmly believe that everyone can sing but that every one's voice is as unique as their finger print. Therefore we work with students to find their own individual sound, selecting the relevant exercises and material to support this.
Lessons consist of a thorough warm up, looking at increasing your vocal range, breath control and developing technique to aid your tone and vocal stamina.
All of our wonderful coaches have a wealth of knowledge in both the performing and teaching world. Although all genres of singing are taught from Rock and Pop to Musical Theatre to Classical/ Opera, each coach has their speciality and a coach will be matched based on the singers vocal needs and desires.
All students are invited to sing as part of an annual concert. It is usually hosted at the Pheasantry, Pizza Express, Kings Road, London. This venue is very popular for artists' album launches and intimate gigs and the perfect place to share all the music the students have been working on. Plus, you get to eat pizza. What's not to love? During Lockdown, students were still able to perform with an online concert which gave students the opportunity to pre-record their song and then sit back and relax on the evening of the concert. We believe that having the opportunity to perform and share your work is so important and nerves aside, is an extremely enjoyable and rewarding experience.
We have an 100% pass rate with ABRSM (performance and practical exams), Trinity and LCM Musical Theatre Grade exams which are excellent for building confidence and knowledge in sight reading, aural tests and performance skills. For more information on either board, please click on the links below.
There is also the exciting opportunity to book a recording package at the highly reputable 'Crown Lane Studios' based in Morden which is where in-person studio lessons are run from. Record one track or an EP or an album! Click on the link below to find out more.
