The St.Ives Musical Theatre Choir

Choir-LogoRGB-darkteal.png

Welcome to the Sing Space St.Ives Musical Theatre Choir! A place for you to escape the hustle and bustle of every day life for 90 minutes a week, dabble in vocal technique, sing in 4 part harmony and above all else, belt out show tunes whilst having a great time.

This really is a choir for all! When the choir began in September 2022, we had a real mix of seasoned performers, ex professionals and complete beginners. We were all a little unsure how it would work but it does! Even those self professed novices who claimed to be 'tone deaf' surprised themselves with what their voice could achieve given the space to play!

There's something for everyone so whether you want to challenge yourself with complex harmonies and sing solo or if you're happiest sticking to the tune hiding behind your score, it's really your choir, your choice.

Each term we learn 2-3 musical theatre songs, often one medley and a couple of stand alone numbers. Mid term, we put down our scores and enjoy a relaxed

karaoke session where members can sing solo or

join in with well known show tunes. There's a

minimum of one performance opportunity each

term. For our first term, we were honoured to

make our debut as a choir at the St.Ives Christmas

lights switch on and ended our term with a corker

of a charity concert raising £450 for Action For

Children.

Every session is live streamed and recorded so if for any reason you need to miss a week, you'll always be able to catch up. When you sign up, you will be invited to join our member's only facebook page where you can keep in touch with other members and arrange things like car shares and theatre trips. All sheet music and guide tracks are provided so no need for printer stress!!

Each year there is the chance to perform at a top London venue with other choirs from across the country. This year, we will be performing at Cadogan Hall on July 1st alongside all the other Sing Space choirs in the country and some of the West End’s biggest names.

As it's a Musical Theatre choir, it's only right that each year we arrange a couple of group trips to see a show either in London or one of the local touring theatres. For the Spring Term of 2023, we will be booking to see Hamilton.

After graduating from the Royal Academy of Music where she studied musical theatre, Kate has worked in both TV, film and theatre.

On stage, Kate has performed in The Phantom of the Opera, The Sound of Music and most recently playing some of Europe's most beautifulopera houses with 'the Beggar's Opera'. On screen Kate has appeared in

Netflix series Top Boy, Mary Poppins Returns and Emmerdale.

Kate has been teaching singing for 20 years working with all ages and levels from the beginner to professional actors. What started as a way of earning a bit of money to see her through drama school and support her through the precarious acting industry, has become her greatest passion, sharing her love of music with others and encouraging students to find their voice.

Kate runs Sing Wimbledon, a music school in South West London with a team of coaches teaching singing, piano, music theory and LAMDA. Although still occasionally working from a studio in London, Kate is now based in Cambridgeshire.

Kate is fascinated in the voice and how it works alongside the positive effects singing has for the individual; relieving stress and building confidence. Kate is so excited to be running the Musical Theatre choir in St.Ives, Cambridgeshire and looks forward to welcoming you in January for a successful second term.
